New CTER project: TER (research platform)

On the initiative of the Chair for Translation Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland and in collaboration with three institutional members of the Consortium for Translation Education Research (CTER): the University of Łódź, Poland, Zurich University of Applied Sciences – ZHAW, Switzerland, and Kiev V. Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University, Ukraine, an international research platform was launched under the name of TER: Translator-Education-Research. TER is one of the research platforms established within the Jagiellonian University programme of Priority Research Areas (POB Heritage).

TER activities, scheduled for the years 2022-2023, will involve study visits, library queries, conference attendance, the organisation of conferences, workshops, guest lectures and seminars, as well as the preparation of publications – all with a view to meeting the platform’s major goals, which are:

  • to conduct inter- and interdisciplinary and innovative research in Translation Studies;
  • to expand the research competences of the scholars and students involved in the platform; and
  • to provide them with access to the up-to-date publications and knowledge about new trends in the target area.

3rd CTER Congress (CTER 2022): summary

The 3rd CTER Congress has come to a close now. This year’s event was held online and attracted participants from 21 countries, including Belgium, China, Czechia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Qatar,  Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The speakers presented very interesting papers and the the keynote speeches were delivered by:

  • Professor Ricardo Munoz Martin, Department of Interpreting and Translation, University of Bologna
  • Professor Oleksandr Bondarenko, teacher at the Chair for Translation Studies, Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University, Kiev, Ukraine and owner of Translatel

The  Congress was rounded up by CTER President Professor Maria Piotrowska, who delivered the closing address.

EACT project

Below you will find information about the EACT project.

The objective of the EACT project (2019-2022), financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (PGC2018-094275-B-I00), is to establish evaluation procedures for different levels of acquisition of Translation Competence (TC) in undergraduate translation degrees in Spain. Seventeen researchers from six universities are participating in EACT: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universidad de Granada, Universitat Jaume I, Universidad de País, Vasco y Universidade de Vigo, and the University of Westminster (UK).

Imago Mundi VII 2020, Warsaw

baner_imagomundiThe Institute of Applied Linguistics of the University of Warsaw kindly invites  you to participate in the 7th conference in the Imago mundi series, under the title of Teaches, entertains, dumbfounds, frightens … The roles of the translator and translation in the modern world, which will be held on  25th-26th June 2020 in Warsaw.

The conference themes will cover, among others:

  • contemporary roles and position of translation and the translator – his ecosystem, working conditions, identity and self-awareness;
  • changes in translation strategies and techniques forced by translation initiators and recipients, or proposed by translators;
  • the impact of new tools on the translation process;
  • new forms of translation activity and new didactic models.

Two panel discussions, devoted to the present state of translation and its future, are also being planned.

CTER Newsletter

The CTER Newsletter is the communication channel that we use to keep in touch with CTER members. Published in electronic format, the newsletter contains information about workshops, conferences, publications and invitations to participate in on-going research in Translation Studies.

Tertium 2020: Language in the Third Millennium XI

We kindly invite you to the eleventh conference in the series Language in the Third Millennium. The conferences so far (2000-2018) have been held in Polish only.  This time, however, the conference will be international, with presentations delivered in both English and Polish. The event will be held on 25-27 March in Krakow, Poland (Wednesday-Friday).
