The 2025 conference theme Language Mediation in Flux invites scholars, translators, and interpreters to explore the ongoing and profound impacts of generative AI and language technologies on the field. When ChatGPT launched in 2022, many pundits decried the 'death of the college essay’ and spoke of seismic changes to the translation industry. However, some translators and language service providers are using these new technologies to improve access to translation and facilitate the translation of more languages, such as the program No Language Left Behind (NLLB Team et al., 2022).
