The second terminological session tackled the issue of translation/translator’s competence. Mrs. Katarzyna Kubiszewska, MA, presented the plan of her doctoral thesis concerning self-development in novice translators in the light of empirical studies. Advantages and disadvantages of self-development in a translator’s education brought about the most heated debate. Later the participants tried to define the following terms found in translation literature: translation/translator’s competence and a competence-based model.
