By inviting different speakers in the area of Chinese Shakespeare from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, the US and the UK to speak on the translatability of theatrical productions of Shakespeare in China in different periods – it is hoped that meaningful discussions will come about on differing translatability issues and socio- political factors underlying these translations at different points in time. This conference will represent the first of its kind that can stimulate thought-provoking discussions regarding the range of problems and opportunities arising from both the original texts and the target languages and cultures which combine to make Shakespeare translation the rich field that it is today.

The congress aims to bring together distinguished scholars and researchers studying linguistics, translation studies, SLA, culture studies, and foreign language teaching. Its objective is to review the theories and research techniques in these fields, address contemporary issues, evaluate past and present critically, and make suggestions for the future. We intend for the congress to pave the way for new perspectives and directions, creating a dynamic online platform for discussions that transcend binary oppositions between the past and the present, the old and the new, and the traditional and the modern.

Deadline for abstract submission: September 30, 2024

As in the first edition, the aim is to discuss and explore the criteria that should guide the representation of the system of concepts behind the terminology of a domain. As the name of the conference indicates, we aim to contrast on one hand the traditional approach of setting up a concept system or ontology, which represents terms as nodes and relationships as arrows between them, and on the other hand frames, which take the relationships as the basis for the structure of events in the domain.

Call Deadline: 16th of April 2024 - Extended deadline for submission.

Since its origins as comic strips in the American press at the tail end of the 19th century, comics have been a global cultural phenomenon, meaning that its artistic and industrial production is deeply informed by its circulation from country to country, continent to continent (Gociol & Gutiérrez, 2012) and, also, from one medium to another. This is more true today than ever, as evidenced in bookstores around the world: Spanish superheroes, Latin American graphic novels created to be sold in the French market, mangaesque stories of homosexual love adapted to German tastes.

Proposals for the International Symposium should include a title and abstract (max. 300 words plus bibliography) and a short author biography (max. 100 words). until May 15th. Contributions can be submitted in Spanish or English and should be sent to diego.labra@uni-hamburg.de. As the selected contributions will be compiled into a collective volume to be published this year, accepted presentations should send the full paper by July 17th.
